Court Charges Man with Murder in County Galway Case
The victim, identified as Masumeh Manojan, was in her 30s and originally from Iran. Her body was found on Thursday morning, with fatal slash and stab wounds.
The accused, 35-year-old Ali Sohrabi, who has no fixed address, was formally charged by Irish police. When the charge of murder was read to him during a hearing at Galway District Court on Saturday evening, he responded “no,” as stated in court proceedings.
Ms Manojan’s remains were located near an International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) centre, which provides housing for asylum seekers in the Republic of Ireland.
During the brief hearing, a detective told the court that the alleged offence took place between 27 and 28 May.
The court heard that Sohrabi has been remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison in County Roscommon, according to reports from Irish broadcaster. His defence solicitor requested that he receive medical and psychiatric care while in custody, a request that was granted by the judge.
